I REMEMBER WHEN
After this horrendous year, I have recently been reminicing with fond memories of years past.
I REMEMBER WHEN:
I spent $50 a week on blowouts for my hair. Now I spend that on Covid Rapid Tests, so I can gear up in PPE and visit with my mom in her assisted living facility.
I REMEMBER WHEN:
The only "things" in cages were the animals at the zoo. Now we see the horrendous sight of children at the border separated from their parents.
I REMEMBER WHEN:
Television is what we used to watch all day in our pj's on a "snow day". Now I watch t.v. in my sweats much of the day because everyday is just like a snow day. No more gym, no more errands, no more visiting friends, no more playing with grandchildren....
I REMEMBER WHEN:
A snow day was the ONLY day you worked from home!
I REMEMBER WHEN:
My weekly grocery order was $100. Now my weekly order exceeds $300.
I REMEMBER WHEN:
Cashmere gloves were "de riguer" to keep our hands warm. Now we don rubber gloves to keep the nasty virus at bay.
I REMEMBER WHEN:
At home tests were ept pregnancy tests. Now they are the coveted $30 covid tests (coming soon to your local pharmacy).
I REMEMBER WHEN:
Immigrants were our grandparents and they were welcomed into the U.S. with open arms, because they would make our country
stronger and brighter. Now they are shunned by cement walls at the borders.
I REMEMBER WHEN:
Creating and preparing an interesting home cooked meal was something I looked forward to. Now I can't stand to be in the kitchen one more second.
I REMEMBER WHEN:
Air Filters were used to remove cooking smells. Today we use them to be safer from air born covid germs.
I REMEMBER WHEN:
Waiting at the restaurant bar for an hour until my table was ready was annoying. Today I yearn for that long wait and socializing with strangers for any amount of time!
I REMEMBER WHEN:
Friends and Family Discount meant 25% off at Bloomies. NOT pardoning murderers, tax evaders, convicted inside traders, and convicted felons.

Christmas Day meant a 4:00 p.m. movie followed by a delicious Chinese feast with my children and grandchildren (and every other Jewish family in America).
I REMEMBER WHEN:
New Year's Eve was spent dining and drinking with my dear friends and toasting each other at midnight before we made our way back home.

It's Been a Minute, or has it been an hour, a day, oh actually it's been 9 months.....
Hi everyone,
It seems incredible that with all this time on my hands and so much time being spent isolating and indoors, I haven't written a blog in a while. But with the holidays approaching, we have the need to purchase Chanukah and Christmas gifts, the time to shop online, and the vacation days to binge movies and programs. Not surprisingly, I have long lists of ideas of gifts to shop for, and many suggestions for shows and movies to keep you busy on cold winter covid days. I will jump right into the product list!
FOOD GIFTS
goldbelly.com-they offer anything from bagels, to ribs and steaks, to desserts. You can purchase food all from the MOST exceptional purveyors. You cannot go wrong with a present from goldbelly for anyone who is a foodie.
Nuts.com-customize your own tray if you want. Or jut pick your favorite fruits, nuts, or candy. Everyone is happy to have these snacks!
In the Mix by Joanna-now creating some very cool Chanukah and Christmas options. Joanna does beautiful cookies. Check her out.
Good Vibes Cookie Company-Check out the Rock the Bells cookie box! The cookies appear to be painted with very pretty crystals. It's a lovely idea for Xmas.
No SIX DEPOT(sixdepot.com)-if you prefer ground coffee (not the pods), then this company offers many amazing varieties in whole bean, drip, expresso and french press. This is the real deal. Also they offer great teas. Reasonable price and a great gift for coffee aficionados.
Nueske's Bacon-Who doesn't think bacon makes everything better? This company has fabulous breakfast baskets or many individual specialty bacon gifts! Great to wake up on Christmas morning to this enticing smell!
Murray's Cheese-You can choose from the cheese of the month subscription to a multitude of gift baskets that include cheese, meats, crackers, olives, etc. Another terrific present that people love, and is great for cocktails!
Three Babes Bake Shop-Supposedly the pie to buy is their bourbon pecan pie. They are based in San Francisco, so make sure to order soon!
PRODUCTS THAT ARE MY FAVS
Little Weirds-Book by Jenny Slate. $15.99 on Amazon. Can't describe it-just buy it!
Scrabble Go-the new and updated version of the world's most favorite game. Will occupy you for hours.
Brookstone digital frame-$69 on Amazon. Great for grandparents! You can upload many photos of the grandkids and they have exhibit a multitude of pics in one frame. Awesome! (but only if you do the setup before presenting it!)
Mini projector by Apeman-$69.99 on Amazon. Home projector so you can watch a movie on a large wall or outside. Might be a fun experience for your kids and their friends. Grab the popcorn!
Anne Sisteron Sunburst Necklace-annesisteron.com. This neckalace just makes you feel happy! But, All jewelry makes me feel happy! The mini is $825 and the larger is $1535. Choose from white or rose gold. I think the the white looks cool.
Monica Rich Kosann Compass Jewelry-monicarichkosann.com. All of us could use some guidance and direction during this scary time. Her compass charms, pendants, and earrings are very pretty. I especially like the blue enamal ones. Priced from $395-$8,000.
Suzanne Kalan-suzannekalan.com. Her baguette jewelry is the bomb. If you want to go for the big bucks, check out her large eternity bands! Love her look. Funky and classy.
Ana Luisa Dome Ring-analuisa.com. The brass dome ring is perfect for your second or middle finger. As a fan of Pommelato's Iconica ring
($2360), this brass ring bathed in 14k gives me the same feel and it comes in sizes 4-12, and it's just $59. It's a great accessory.
Reading Eggs Junior App-readingeggs.com. This app is a great way to help your little ones read. It's fun and engaging with lots of activities and games. With the covid era, and kids hanging home more this is a lifesaver for parents. I reccomend it highly.
Jenni Kane clothing-jennikayne.com-great easy to wear clothing. I especially love the everyday sweater which comes in tons of colors and stripes. $145. Her oversized cardigans are fabulous too.
Dudley Stephens clothing-dudley-stephens.com. They make a super warm vello fleece top in many styles. Personally, I like the Greenpoint turtleneck because the length comes to the hip as opposed to their Park Slope style which is a bit shorter. Beware-most colors are sold out! I would size up if you are unsure. $158. Great for the outdoor socially distant visits with friends and family. (shout out to Dani!)
MOVIES AND SERIES TO BINGE DURING THE WINTER
MOVIES
An American Pickle-HBO MAX. Seth Rogen stars. A cute distraction. Story is about an Orthodox Jew who is preserved in pickle brine for 100 years and wakes up in NYC in search of his great grandson, also played by Seth Rogen.
Super Intelligence-HBO MAX. Melissa McCarthy and Bobby Cannavale star in this silly flick about super intelligence selecting the most average person on Earth to study. Wasn't my thing, but it just might entertain you for a few hours.
Boys In The Band-Netflix. Nice remake of the original movie. Great Cast: Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons, and Andrew Rannells. You remember the 1968 movie when a visitor interrupts the evening party being hosted by a group of gay men. Very well done.
Happiness Season-Hulu. Kristen Stewart and Daniel Levy. First ever Lesbian rom-com. Not a great movie, but I am desperate for something to watch!
Rewind-Amazon Prime. Documentary about a child who discovers through home video all the sexual abuse that occured within his family. You may remember, Howard Nevison, the prominent Cantor of Temple Emanuel in NYC. He was just one of the three brothers who abused his nephew, the filmmaker. Harrowing, mesmerizing, and important to watch.
Let Him Go-a rental starring Kevin Costner(my favorite) and Diane Lane. Following the death of their son, a couple leaves their ranch to rescue their young grandson from a mob-like family living in the Dakotas. Scary, entertaining, and I liked it. But, it is more of a made for tv movie than one that was released for the cinema.
SERIES
Queen's Gambit-Netflix. An orphan with an addiction problem becomes the greatest chess player in the world. I am sure most of you have watched this (62 million households in the first 28 days), because it is getting so much buzz. While it is compelling and charming; and a series I recommend, I wasn't as enamored as the rest of the world.
Industry-HBO. Streaming now. A series about International Finance. Having a hard time getting into it, but taping it for a later attempt.
The Crown-Netflix. I binged the new season in one day. Always interesting and great. Gillian Anderson as Princess Margaret, Emma Corrin as Lady Di, and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret were my favorites.
Dash and Lily-Netflix. Another undeserving 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. A romance ensues base upon a notebook being passed back and forth with clues. Very mediocre.
The Undoing-HBO. For my money, the best series I've watched in months. Unpredictable plot and superb acting by Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant, and Donald Sutherland. Was so sad when it ended.
The Flight Attendant-HBO MAX. Rosie Perez and Kaley Cuoco (from Big Bang) who is really fantastic as a flight attendant involved in a murder. Opening episode is the Bomb and not what you are expecting. So far, I'm loving it.
A Teacher-Hulu. Stars Kate Mara as the teacher who engages in an illicit sexual affair with her student. Mara is amazing in this trashy and juicy series. A great distraction during Covid isolation.
Euphoria-HBO. Season 2 isn't out, but there is a special covid episode streaming now on HBO MAX. Zendaya won the emmy award for lead actress in a drama for her role as Rue. She is phenomenalthis girl can act. Keep your eyes out for season 2 coming soon.
The Surgeon's Cut-Netflix Dec 9. Haven't watched this docuseries yet. Follows four prominent surgeons performing innovative surgeries. Can't wait.
Eater's Guide to the World-Hulu. Maya Rudolph narrates this series. If you are a true foodie, this is the series for you. Plan your next trip based on the food you want to experience- will it be Mexico, L.A., New York, Costa Rica.....the world is your oyster. So enjoyable to watch.
Yellowstone-was originally shown on Paramount. Now streaming on Peacock if you have it. I have touted this show for three seasons. As I mentionged earlier, Costner is my most favorite! He stars as the patriarch of a complicated family of ranchers. Great ensemble cast and very worthwhile series. Kelly Reilly plays Costner's daughter and she rocks! Season 4 returns in June, 2021. So binge these 3 seasons now.
Let Them All Talk-HBO MAX 12/10 Release. Waiting with bated breath for this! A transatlantic cruise with Meryl Streep, Dianne Weist, and Candice Bergen. I can't imagine a better joy ride.
And so my friends, I figure we have until May/June until we meet once again in person. This will undoubtedly be another long winter for all of us. They say patience is a virtue.
What is the actual meaning of this expression?
Well, it means it is a valuable character trait to be able to wait for something without becoming frustrated.
Unfortunately, I did not inherit this trait from either of my parents! I am especially cognizent of this fact while waiting for a Dr. to enter my examining room and he(she) is running 45 minutes behind; or waiting 20-30 minutes for someone to take my drink order (in pre-covid days when we frequented restaurants).
But presently, I am trying patiently to await the Covid Vaccine so that I may enter my daughters' homes and be able to once again hug and kiss my children and grandchildren; so that I may enter my mother's assisted living facility so that I may kiss her and comfort her before she dies; so that I may make a few more wonderful trips before my body doesn't want to travel anymore; so that I am able to enjoy my golden years doing joyous activities (oh, how I long for a Yankees game or a museum or a movie theater) with my husband; and finally, so that I may experience my cherished friends in person and socialize once again.
I know this day will come and truthfully, I am more hopeful now that Joe Biden will be our new President. If nothing else, he has already exhibited his extreme patience during these last several weeks. He has shown the country that patience is not his only virtue. He is also kind, calm, empathetic, and intelligent.
So, I hope we can all emulate his behavior and character. And soon, this time in our lives will be a memory that we never forget. But, it WILL be a memory.
Please take care, stay safe, mask up!

Mr. Trump, where is your "rachmanus"?
The Yiddish word rachmanus is loosely defined to mean compassion, empathy, mercy and pity. Rachmanus rules have played a major role in the JCC Maccabi Games. Some of the rules cited for these games are: Treat others as you would like to be treated. Be a good loser and a gracious winner. Make a positive difference. Refrain from actions that many cause injury to others. Lead by example.
In the past four years, Trump has showed no inkling of rachmanus. To ANYONE. EVER. But, when he got the virus, I thought to myself-NOW. NOW, he will finally understand the tragedy of 210,000 deaths in our country. NOW, he can relate to the 7.5 million cases in the U.S and what a horrendous virus Covid is. NOW he will understand the need for more testing, the need for more ppe, and the need for more contact tracing. AND, Finally, he will comprehend the need for social distaning, for isolating for 14 days when you exhibit symptoms or test positive, he will understand the importance of wearing a mask, and he will tell the people of the U.S. that it is imperative to be diligent at all times when leaving their home. It would become crystal clear to him that he was totally wrong about this being exactly "like the flu". In the past four years the sum of deaths from the flu did not total over 200,000! And, we have a vaccine for the flu. He would have an epiphany now that, he too, is now sick with Corona. He would pontificate that we DO need to listen to the scientists. He would realize his life, his wife's life, and our lives depend on it.
BUT NOOOOOOOOOO-this man cares about noone. Instead, he gathered up his secret service (while being treated with 3 drugs in the hospital and while he was extremely contagious) to chaffeur a joyride in order to wave to his supporters. That was not showing rachmanus. How does he not protect the lives of the people who have dedicated their lives to protecting him and his family?
Did you know he came late to the debate last Tuesday and therefore, did not get tested at the Cleveland Clinic? He was probably contagious at that point. Is that showing rachmanus to the Biden's, Chris Wallace, the audience? Did you know that Trump's family also went maskless at the debate despite the state health guidelines mandating masks? How is that showing empathy and compassion? Rather, it shows a total lack of kindness and respect for others.
Noone seems to be discussing the Trump fund raiser in Bedminster,N.J. The President's decision to attend that event despite his known exposure after Hope Hicks tested positive for Covid was appalling and horrifying. He literally put the entire staff and 200 supporters in danger. The club should be shut down for 14 days. Children of these supporters are being asked to remain home and not attend school.Don't even get me started on the Rose Garden debacle for Judge Barret. At the minimum, 11 people now have Covid from that event.
Which brings me to the question: when was Trump's last negative test? How long has he been contagious? His behavior has been reckless. He has callous disregard for human lives.
When he returned to the White House last night and removed his mask, I thought I would just pass out. Is he delirious? He
is supposed to be isolating for 14 days. Instead, he had someone get close enough to him to apply makeup and then he summoned photographers so that he could have a photo op. I was literally watching an Orange Evita. Don't cry for me! Cry for him.
Trump had the opportunity to turn this around, to be a positive leader, to show compassion and empathy for what this country is experiencing. He refuses to allow the CDC to perform contact tracing for the Rose Garden Event. Why? He is now blocking the FDA from testing the vaccine for two months to ensure it is safe. Why? Because he doesn't care about human life. He solely cares about being reelected.
Evidently, his Jewish son in law, Jared, hasn't informed him of the meaning of rachmanus. Maybe Stephen Miller will enlighten Trump!
But,it's doubtful.
PEACE OUT! ONE B
HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY WILL!

SOCIALLY DISTANCING ON THE SOFAS
Summer 2020 is coming to an end and I am not sad. I always look forward to the crisp fall air, the changing color of the leaves, pumpkins, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. This summer was an odd time for all of us. I am so grateful for my ability to spend an abundance of beautiful days and evenings at our country club. For me, being able to remain socially distant while enjoying delicious meals and magnificent views to boot was key. It helped create a feeling that everything was "normal".
On occasion, I have been chastised for refusing to sit at a table with others where I cannot maintain a social distance of six feet. If this is something you choose to do and you are fine with joining others at a table or dining out at a restaurant, I totally support you. I don't judge your preferences. I don't have any expectations of others and I want you to be happy. But I too, do not want to be judged for my choices or what makes me feel comfortable. Betraying myself to make others feel better is too stressful for me, and not something I will do.
So that being said, school is back in session. People are returning to work and their offices. We are going more places and coming into contact with more people. Please continue to stay safe, mask, and wash hands often. As we all know, children are often asymptomatic and carrying the virus. I have once again started masking inside my grandchildren's home. By masking, I am trying to keep others and myself well. It's a courtesy and a respect that all of us must continue to do.
As the cold weather approaches, I assume we will have lots more time to read and watch television. Before you are glued to the television set solely watching the election results and becoming totally depressed, I have many suggestions to keep you occupied and distracted from politics.
BOOKS
Sex and Vanity-Kevin Kwan's new book. The author of Crazy Rich Asians. A light, easy read filled with comic footnotes that tells the story of a woman torn between two men from completely opposite cultures.
Writers and Lovers-Lily King. A very well written novel about a 31 yeare old woman trying to fulfill her dream of becoming a writer. Excellent-Loved it.
Friends and Strangers-J.Courtney Sullivan. Yet another novel about a writer who is also a mom and wife with secrets(that I haven't read about yet).
The Gifts of Imperfection-Brene' Brown. This book has been around a long time. Basically, the key idea is to live a life that is authentic and true-don't try to conform for others. Have self confidence to embrace your uniqueness and not feel judged. Very relevant to today even though it was penned in 2018.
Memoirs and Misinformation-Jim Carrey. I'm listening to this on audible. This is semi-autobiographical about a successful actor's lonliness, and need for constant afirmation. Kooky and interesting...not sure!
Unlocking Us-Brene' Brown. This is a Podcast about vulnerability and courage. Many helpful words to help us balance the hard "stuff" with humor and hope.
And for those of us who haven't gotten enough of President Trump and his family, there are some juicy tell alls with much of the information we've already heard infinite times during his presidency.
Too Much Is Never Enough-Mary Trump. Trump's niece reveals the dysfunctional background of the Trump family.
Disloyal:A Memoir-Michael Cohen. Again, nothing that we don't know. Granted, Cohen, Trump's lawyer was as crooked as Trump. But, he documents that they spent a lot of time paying off people to hide affairs, tax evasion, and to vanquish rivals.
Melania and Me-Stephanie Winston Wolcott. I find her to be a very credible source and an interesting read. As a close friend of Melania's, and an accomplished woman, she was hired to produce the Inauguration. My take away from this book-Melania, is in fact, happy to be in the White House and is totally complicit with Donald's words and actions.

periods of time. Hopefully, these suggestions will aide you in this journey!
Until we see each other again-PEACE OUT-ONE B

Watch, Binge, Repeat
🚸With all this time on my hands, I have been watching even more tv than my usual amount. Lately, I prefer movies or shorter series because my attention span isn't great these days.
First I'll suggest some good shows for the KIDS:
Hamilton-on Disney Plus. My grandsons give it 2 thumbs up and will sing you the entire score!
The Baby Sitter's Club-on Netflix. I just watched the series so I could discuss it with my grandchildren, and thought it was terrific. Many lessons are taught and it's fun to watch.
The Secret Garden(2020)-on Netflix. Haven't watched. A child's parents suddenly dies and she moves to her Aunt and Uncle's home where a magical garden exists.
Recently watched MOVIES:
Da Five Bloods-on Netflix. Amazing performance by Delroy Lindo. About Vietnam and a heist.
The King of Staten Island-on Prime. Autobiography of Pete Davidson from Saturday Night Live. Comedy/drama. I liked this but recommend it for the 50 and under crowd and/or fans of SNL.
The Truth-on Netflix. Starring Catherine Deneuve, Juliette Binoche and Ethan Hawke. Mother daughter drama. Great cast. Deneuve is fabulous to watch.
Shirley-on Hulu. Elisabeth Moss stars as famed horror author Shirley Jackson. Moss is superb, but the movie is fair yet held my interest.
Hope Gap-on Amazon Prime. Intense story of Grace (Annette Bening) and her husband (Bill Nighy).
About a disintegrating marriage of 29 years. Excellent performances. Worth a watch.
Saving Face-on Amazon Prime. A story of a lesbian doctor navigating her love relationship and balancing her traditional mother and grandparent's views with her lifestyle. Thumbs up.
DOCUMENTARIES or SHOWS BASED ON A TRUE STORY:
David Foster: Off The Record-Netflix. Great profile on The grammy award winning composer and producer. You will be awed at how many famous people he has written or produced for! Streisand, Chicago, Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli and others.
Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich-on Netflix. Extremely difficult to watch. Survivors of his abuse explain how he used his wealth and power to carry out atrocities. Not sure I can finish. Creepy....
Dirty John/The Betty Broderick Story-on USA. This isn't a documentary but based on the true story of a breakdown of a marriage that ends in a double homicide. Amanda Peet knocks it out of the ball park as Betty Broderick. Christian Slater plays her husband.
Quiz-AMC. Three part drama about a real couple who were accused of cheating their way to a million pounds on a Quiz Show in Britain.
Laurel Canyon-on Epix. Two part series about the musicians who lived in Laurel Canyon during the 60's and 70's. One of the best shows I've watched in the pandemic. It's really FABULOUS!
Lenox Hill-on Netflix. Documentary series about four doctors at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC. If you ever need a neurosurgeon, check out both Dr. David Langer and Dr. John Boockvar. They are incredibly brilliant and caring and phenomenal physicians. Super interesting!
Mrs. America-on FX. The story of Phyllis Schlafly, who led the conservative movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. Great Cast with Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Uzo Aduba, Sarah Paulson, and Tracey Ullman.
JUST FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT:
Hollywood-on Netflix. Created by Ryan Murphy. Series about post WW II Hollywood and its aspiring actors and filmmakers. Fair but entertaining.
Never Have I Ever-on Netflix. Created by Mindy Kaling. Plot is about the complicated life of a first generation Indian American teen who is a sophomore in High School. Cute. Better for teens.
Greenleaf-on Own. This is the fifth season and one of my favorites. The story is about the Greenleaf family who runs a Memphis megachurch and the scandalous secrets of this supposedly close knit family.
Intersection-on Netflix. Basically a Turkish soap opera about 2 wealthy businessmen and how their lives cross paths. Each episode is VERY long and there are two seasons. So, it is a big investment of time. Many have raved about this-I don't get why. That being said I watched the entire two seasons! I got hooked. Beware-if you start it, you will probably want to finish!
The Politician-on Netflix. This is the second season. I've lost interest. Great Cast-Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, Bette Midler, Judith Light, and many others. Started out as smart and addictive. Downhill in the second season.
RECCOMENDATIONS FROM FRIENDS (THAT I HAVE NOT YET WATCHED)
The Umbrella Factor-on Netflix.
White Lines-on Netflix
Money Heist-on Netflix.
Lovelife-on HBO Max.
Greyhound-Apple TV plus. Tom Hanks new movie.
Escape to the Chateau-PBS. If you like renovations and old houses, this docuseries is supposed to be great!
World on Fire-on PBS. WWII drama following the everyday lives of people in five countries
.
This should keep you busy for a while! Be well. Stay safe. Wear a mask!

STRENGTH WHISPERS. WEAKNESS SCREAMS (or tweets)
As the U.S. grapples with a major spike in corona cases in the South and the West, the European Union has banned Americans from traveling to Europe. This not only severely impacts the world's health but also the economy for Europe and America. We need a National Approach to this pandemic and fast. Even as cases surge in California, Texas and Florida, the administration has scaled back funding for federal testing and closed 13 testing sites. There are still not enough tests, not enough ICU beds, not enough PPE. How can that be after watching what has occurred in NY, NJ, and Conn.? We are the only country that is not capable of flattening the curve. We have failed. What does it mean that we cannot engage in self sacrifice to keep our people safe? Are we that selfish?
Trump is not exhibiting any acceptance that we are now the leading country with the most cases of Coronavirus in the world. The United States should DO better; we should BE better. This is all about public cooperation-everyone must comply. We must all wear masks when going out anywhere. We must practice social distancing all the time, not some of the time. Social Distancing is still not being taken seriously. We need to respectfully distance at outside social gatherings, and not make others feel uncomfortable by approaching them. We must wipe down surfaces and wash hands frequently. We can not let our guard down. This is far from over. So you think it's not happening to the elderly anymore because 17-35 year olds are the new target? Well, guess what? The 17-35 year olds visit their parents, grandparents, professors, and restaurants where they spread the disease unknowingly.
Governor Phil Murphy has decided to not resume indoor dining. Understandably, the restaurant owners are angry and upset by this decision. But, the fact is that when dining indoors, your risk of getting the virus is 20 times higher. He did the right thing, He is saving lives.
I recently had a lovely short respite from our everyday life. We went up to the Vineyard. Every single person I saw wore a mask. If you happened to leave your home and forgot to wear your mask, you were the pariah. Whether they were outside, walking alone, or entering a store (where you must sanitize before entering and they limit the quantity of people to 4 at a time) a mask was ALWAYS on. All outdoor restaurants had curbside pickup and if there were tables, they were spaced well over 6 feet away. They have it right. They respect each other and are keeping themselves and others safe.
We aren't capable of stopping our everyday lives. It is not a realistic expectation. There is work, camp, school, errands, sports, recreation, etc. We need to have positive leadership with role models in our government who will wear masks, not hold indoor rallies, or attend indoor choir performances. We must promote the same rules for each and every person and from state to state. We need to get back to some normalcy. Look at England, Italy, Spain....they have figured it out. They flattened the curve.
So what next? My grandchildren have started camp and are interacting with many kids. My children have dinner with friends outdoors. My club has outside dining. Swimming pools and beaches are open. My hair and nail salon have opened. Do I sit next to the kids? Do I get hair color or a blow out at a salon? How often should I go to the grocery store? Do I venture up to the club for a meal? Is it ok to go to the dentist or podiatrist? Truthfully, I am petrified. I want to do all of this, but I am very wary, because I am old. Because I have an elderly mom. Because I want to keep my husband, children, grandchildren and friends safe. I often say that your Coronavirus rules are similar to how people observe their religion. You must do what you feel comfortable with. Some people don't bring in takeout food, but they will go to the grocery store. Some people chat on the first tee and they are not socially distant or wearing a mask because they are "outside". Some people have friends over for dinner and sit at the same table and share communal snacks. Some people have their hair done in the garage but let their grandchildren sleep over. I do not judge what you want to do. But I insist that we all respect each other's individual preferences. You do You, but please respect Me. Respect is a choice. I pray we all make wise choices, and we keep well and safe.
Ooh child
Things are gonna get easier
Ooh child
Things'll get brighter
Some day. yeah
We'll put it together and we'll get it undone
Some day
When your head is much lighter
Some day, yeah
We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Some day
When the world is much brighter

Endless Lockdown Is Not How I Expected To Live Out My Golden Years
I am not going to lie. I am depressed. I am totally at my wit's end and yet, this virus's end is nowhere in sight. Before the pandemic, I was often with my grandchildren during the week. I either did school pickups; or drove one of them to an afternoon activity; or had a magnatile playdate building zoos, castles, and buildings; or went to parks; and we shared many fun experiences and meals together.
I went to the gym everyday. I would visit with my mom several times a week and I took her various places. I met my friends for dinner and drinks at a restaurant. Usually, my husband and I wouldn't eat dinner until 8pm (which is when he would get home from work). We traveled a few times a year and spent a week in the summer at Spring Lake with our kids and their kids. We were planning a Europe trip in the fall.
All of this has come to an alarming halt. My grandchildren can't come in my car. We can't go to movies together or touch their toys. Parks are out of the question-no swings or slides allowed. My mom has been in isolation for three months (and tomorrow I get to visit with her with a piece of plexiglass in between us)! There will be no travel and there is no Spring Lake this summer. And let's discuss my dinner-it's now at 6:30 p.m. because my husband is already home and done with work after a 12-13 hour day! So by 8:30, I am starving again. And, as I have told anyone who will listen: CHICOS is my new CHANEL!
I feel such sadness that I can't spend the same amount of time with the three youngest grandchildren (ages 1, almost 2, almost 3) as I had the opportunity to do with the two older boys. Do the little ones EVEN know me? When I do have the opportunity to see them, they can't figure out the masks or why I won't hug them. It has been sheer torture. The two older ones (ages 5 & 7) are much more understanding, and we talk a lot on Facetime and on Caribu. I miss getting and giving the hugs and kisses. Will they ever want to sleep here again? None of them have had the opportunity in so long or EVER, and I fear that they will be scared to sleep in a strange bed or crib.
So I have resorted to being a homework advisor and a shopper/chef for themed meals: S'More Saturday, Sundaes on Sunday, Mac and Cheese Monday, Taco Tuesday, Froot Loop Friday or Fish and Chips Friday, and Thinny Thin Pizza on Thursday (hasn't happened yet). Mind you-I don't eat the meals with them. We would be at two separate tables 12 feet away.
I do get to visit in a socially distant way with three of my grandsons. We can take a walk on opposite sides of the street or I can watch but NOT participate in any sports they play-no touching balls, paddles, swings. My other daughter will not allow any socially distant visits because her daughter and son are too young to understand staying away from us. It's completely heartbreaking. So for now, Facetime is my savior.
I know, I know-many of you are in exactly the same position or don't even have kids that live nearby. So I am grateful for the ability to be in close proximity to everyone, and very thankful that everyone is healthy!
That brings me to the lessons I can learn from this Hell. If you have to go through Hell, don't come out of it empty handed. So here it goes....
More often I take stock of the beauty around me-my lovely daughters and sons in law, my husband, my grandchildren, and nature that surrounds me everyday. I value the sunrises more, the sunsets, the birds chirping, foxes that cross my path while walking, and the blooming trees, flowers, and shrubs. ACHOO!!!!!!!! I don't take any of this for granted.
So much of what we used to do was and is unnecessary. We don't need to spend so much time shopping, buying things, driving places, or dressing in uncomfortable clothes and shoes.
All of us are stressed-try and be more gracious with the people you love. Have a greater degree of empathy for one another. They are all just as stressed as you are. This is not an easy time for anyone.
Show appreciation to all the wonderful service people out there-not just during the pandemic but always! The doctors, nurses, mailmen, food and package delivery people, plumbers, grill fixers, electricians, the a/c guy, the gardeners, the garbage men, grocery store workers, the chefs, all the amazing staff in assisted living and nursing facilities, news casters, governors, and everyone who continues to work so hard to help us get through this trying time. Never miss an opportunity to thank them! Tell them how much you appreciate them. All of them are HEROES.
This virus is Not going away. And there is NOT a vaccine that will be happening for a long while. So, I want to remind everyone that even as restrictions are lifted, the health experts still recommend that older adults (that's me!) avoid potential carriers. The safest strategy is to spend your social time outdoors. Stay 10-12 feet apart (not 6 feet) when inside or outside with others. Everyone over the age of 2 should be wearing a mask-I know that might be unrealistic. Don't share food or drinks. Always carry hand sanitizer. Explain to the younger children that masks are keeping their grandparents safe.
Stay connected with your relatives and friends. It is imperative for our emotional, mental, and physical health to interact with people. Loneliness is the great predictor of decline. So, Count your blessings and cherish what you have. And always remember that "Everyday is a gift; but tomorrow is never a promise."

NEW ONE B BLOG: "TIME IS THE FINAL CURRENCY" (David Crosby)
Here I am again with more rants!
Donald Trump is a man who deflects blame both personally and politically. Everyday he selects someone else to attack. Who is it now? Obama, China, WHO, the FBI, the press, President Bush, The Lincoln Project?
Trump fired Dr. Rick Bright, a former vaccine official. Why? Bright filed a whistleblower complaint against the Whitehouse stating he was pressured to ignore scientific recommendations and put politics and cronyism ahead of human lives. Where is the ethics in this firing? Trump continually berates and pushes out the brightest people. DON'T CROSS THE BOSS is his motto. He doesn't want truth.
If your child, spouse, friend, or partner was acting this erratically, you would seek help immediately.
Does Trump think if we don't talk about the virus it will just vanish? When an epidemic strikes, we need communication from scientists and medical experts. It is vital we have clear facts and clear evidence. If Trump engaged the scientists to provide our information and allowed them to actually tell us the facts, he would then be a true leader.
We are in a crisis. A crisis is an opportunity to show how you lead. A leader would demonstrate competence, firmness, and honesty. Closing your eyes to the recent models of how the virus will progress, and refusing to provide adequate testing for our country merely proves his choice to put politics and economics above the value of human lives.
Angus King, the Independent senator from Maine, is on the Intelligence Committee and was put on the Task Force to reopen the country. He was contacted only once (to be assigned to the Task Force). Several Weeks ago, he wrote to Trump suggesting that he place the competent Joe Dunford (19th former Chief of Staff) in charge of testing so that by June 15, the U.S. could be testing 2 million people a day. The suggestion fell on deaf ears. This morning, Dr. Jonathan Reiner said that a new study indicates every person in America should be tested. The reason for this comment: Asymptomatic people are shedding the virus and exhibit absolutely no symptoms. So, when you are in the market or at the pharmacy, there are many people in the aisles unknowingly spreading this virus. Extensive testing is the ONLY way we can eradicate this virus until there is a vaccine. Trump does not care about saving lives. He cares about winning the November election, and the stock market. And,"the real tragedy is that this is a mistake. By cutting himself off from people who know their subject matter and who will tell him the truth, he is cutting himself off from good information, which makes for very bad decisions." This virus is about science. No politics or ideology is involved.
Is it necessary to open tattoo parlors, nail salons, and bowling alleys? Who is that helping?
FDR said in his 1937 Inaugural Speech: "Hard-headness will not so easily excuse Hard-heartedness."
So, on a completely different tangent....How are all of you dealing with your significant others in such close quarters 24/7? I assume for some of you it's fabulous, and for some of you, not so much. I read an interesting interview in The New Yorker with therapist, Esther Perel. She discusses what happens to couples under stress.
Presently, in this isolation era your "partner is now expected to be your best friend, lover, psychotherapist, childcare co-worker, dishwasher, cook, housekeeper. Before all this, historically some of these positions were spread out within the community".
She suggests that we "create boundaries and routines". We should "separate day and night, weekdays and weekends, private time and family time. Couples need to regulate togetherness and separateness with or without confinement during a corona virus."
I couldn't agree with this more! I have always been a loner during the day! I need my space and my autonomy. I don't like to talk in the morning. I value my alone time. I don't want to discuss who I spoke with on the phone, or what my best friend had to say. I don't want to have lunch together on a weekday. In fact, I don't want to eat lunch at all on a weekday! Believe me, I adore my husband. And I am truly a very social person-I love talking to and being with my friends, I love going out and having fun. But, I am also equally happy spending time with just me, myself, and I. So, just let me be until we meet up at our dinners each evening, or until the weekend. I'll even eat lunch with you on Saturday and Sunday! Partners shouldn't take this personally or be offended. For me, it is merely about maintaining the routines we had before this virus came along. I am the same person I always was-my alone time is necessary for my sanity!
Ok-what to watch next?
Hollywood-Netflix
I Know This Much is True-HBO on 5/10
Jerry Seinfeld's 23 Hours to Kill - Netflix

Quotes I like:
"Never underestimate what a hungry man will do for bacon." From the show, WACO.
"Shingles, Whiskers, bad bones, and bunions" -referring to what happens to women as they age.
From the show Better Things.
Can't wait until I can rant with all of you in person! Be well. Stay Safe.

Stream of Consciousness Rants from a Woman Going Insane in Isolation-approaching 7 weeks
I know I should be grateful for the roof over my head; the food on my table; that I have money to buy food for my table; for Netflix; for the good health of my husband, children, grandchildren, and my mom; BUT I am literally in a downward spiral mentally. I am totally losing it. Everything annoys me ALL the time. Everything. Maybe I should do yoga, but I don't want to. Maybe, I should go for a walk, but I don't want to. Maybe I should drink, but I don't want to.
What I want to do is GO OUT! I mean REALLY go out! To a show, to a bar, to the gym, to a restaurant, to a movie, to a ball game, to lunch with a friend, to a park, to a 7 Eleven with my grandsons for slurpees, to the mall, etc. etc. I want to hug and kiss my grandchildren. But, I can't. If I was Van Gogh, I probably would have cut off an ear by now. If I was Mike Tyson, I probably would've bitten off an ear by now. If I was Lorena Bobbitt, well you can finish that sentence. So my mind is inundated with all these crazed observations....
Are you ready?
If Covid 19 originated in the wet market of China and was transmitted from an animals to a human, THEN why are they saying on the latest news reports (last night) that the infected domestic cats and the Bronx zoo tigers in New York that have Covid 19, cannot spread the virus to humans? Viruses clearly move around between species. Why are they reporting that only humans can spread it to their pets, but not vice versa? This makes me nuts! Why doesn't someone explain this?
"I was never involved in a model at least this kind of model." Guess who said that? Yup - our President. The man who lacks empathy and competence and is a barely functional human and is throwing 2 hour MEGA rallies everyday. You can't open up the economy with DEAD people, NUM NUTS! Stop inciting governors to open up their states before the curve flattens.
Stop prescribing hydroxychloroquine-YOU ARE NOT A DOCTOR. YOU ARE NOT AN EPIDEMOLOGIST! YOU DON'T HAVE A F---ING CLUE. Please leave the medical questions to the scientists and doctors. Don't offer your opinion on this. And don't fire HHS Intelligence community Inspector General, Dr. Bright, because he disagrees with you unsubstantiated views on cures for the Coronavirus.
As far as the economy, why should anyone be listening to Donald Trump? This man's hotels and businesses have declared bankruptcy SIX times. Mitch McConnell encouraging bankruptcy instead of bailouts is totally irresponsible. Remember, McConnell wasn't in favor of compensation funds for 9/11 victims or Hurricane Sandy relief aid. Contrary to his belief, these are not blue state issues. And, to the wealthy population out there who support this orange man (Trump) and his ignorant majority leader, why do you care if they open the economy now or wait a bit longer until this virus flattens? Shouldn't we be more concerned with saving lives? You have enough money to sustain your way of living-it should not be as important to the millionaires as it is to the small businesses, first responders and health care workers who are trying to stay afloat, trying to pay their bills or to pay their employees and trying to feed their families? If you have so much money and care so much about the economy, why don't you figure out a way to support the businesses in your local community-how about some anonymous donations?
And, just for the record President Trump, the U.S. has not provided more testing than any other country. The U.S. has 327 million people. As of now, 1 in 273 people are being tested in the U.S.
In Italy, where they have 60 million people, 1 in 133 people are tested. The U.S. may have conducted the most tests, BUT NOT PER CAPITA. In South Korea with a population of 51.5 million people, they test 1 in every 119 people. In Germany with 82.8 million people, they test 1 in 90 people.
So stop the rant everyday about your amazing ventilators and your incredible testing. I can't take it!
Now let's get to the Ray Donovan of the Trump Administration. His FIXER! You guessed it-William Barr. He's the man who compared coronavirus shutdowns to house arrest. He incites Governors to liberate their states along with Trump. Barr has done serious damage to the law of our country.
And, why isn't anyone talking about the long awaited 3 year review led by the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee that unanimously found that Russia did in fact interfere with elections? Shame on Trump for badmouthing/firing all the intelligence people working for the U.S.
Nursing Homes-where do I begin? I am totally freaked out. So far, there have been 7 deaths in my mom's assisted living facility. Presently another 5-7 people tested positive. She has been in isolation as long as I have. I worry every minute about her and that she is all alone. I often visit outside her window, fill her pillboxes in the parking lot like a drug dealer, and supply food each week so she has some treats every now and then. If I remove her, she cannot return until phase 3 is over. That could be June or July. I don't have a set up conducive to her staying in my home: 2 flights of stairs(she uses a walker), no walk in shower, and I don't use heat. Plus if I remove her, she must be quarantined for 14 days in a room in my home. So, it is with tremendous anxiety and guilt that I ask myself each day if I am doing right by her.
My hair is another issue (albeit a much less important one than the topics that preceded this rant). Tomorrow I go to the salon where they have premixed my hair color and have arranged an outside cash exchange for the color mixture. Then I go home and apply! Waalah-no roots!
A cousin of ours in Florida woke up today and was so excited to see that for the first time in weeks, the headline on the front page wasn't about Coronavirus. He was elated until he read the headline:
2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season Expected to be "above average". What the F--k?
So what do I do if I have a tooth ache, appendicitis, a large itchy raised bump on my neck (not a hickey), a finger that got caught in my shredder (true); what if my oven, refrigerator, or microwave breaks? Some of these things have occurred and some will in the future. I am sure of it! These are just a few more things that keep me reeling...and wide awake.
When can we see the dentist, the dermatologist-(fillers and botox are really taking a hit), the a/c servicing guy? I keep rescheduling appointments in hopes that we can do these things in a month. And Chicos -don't worry. I know your stores have been boarded up and closed, but I swear when we all emerge from our homes 20 lbs. heavier, those elastic waist clothes will totally be in vogue.
The Mayor of Las Vegas-has anyone had the fortune of watching Anderson Cooper interview Mayor Goodman on CNN on Wednesday? YOU MUST WATCH! She is insane. Very funny to watch. But very sad for the union workers in Vegas who disagree with her calling for casinos to reopen in this pandemic. She was completely unraveled......And FYI, the Governor totally disagrees with her. Thank God for that! Anderson Cooper was amazing.
Governor Cuomo-What is there to say? You should be President. Your daily conferences are the best. You instill calm, empathy, insight, and knowledge in the Northeast. We need you to run. We are lucky to have you as the voice of reason in this crazy world.
Ok-you all know what comes next. It's the only thing that gets me through the nights. What am I watching now you may ask? Here it is:
Belgravia-Epix. The story of secrets and scandals among the upper class of London during the 19th century. Juicy. If you liked Downton Abbey, you'll enjoy.
Unorthodox-Netflix. Hasidic Jewish woman living in Brooklyn runs away to Germany to escape her marriage. Very good.
Breeders-FX or Hulu. The paradoxical story of a couple who adore their young children, but often run out of patience with them. Clever and well done.
Fauda-Netflix. I don't watch it, but everyone I know does. And the third season is starting. Enjoy!
Better Things-FX. In my opinion (feel free to disagree), this is the BEST written show on tv. I love every second of every episode. As a mom of daughters, and also having an elderly mom, I relate
to so much of this. I command you to watch. And you can start with this season. You don't have to watch previous seasons if you don't want.
Schitt's Creek-POP TV or Hulu. I am so sad. The final season has ended. One of the funniest and most clever shows out there. Totally worth the time. You will not be sorry. Catherine O'Hara is the bomb.
Ms. America-Hulu. The story of the movement to ratify the ERA. Seen through the eyes of the feminists of the time and the conservative women's movement against them. Great cast. So far, it's very good.
I Know This Much Is True- Premieres May 10 on HBO. Based on the novel by Wally Lamb.
Defending Jacob-Apple Tv+. Teenager charged with first degree murder. Premieres tomorrow. Didn't get great reviews. Judge for yourself.
Bad Education-premieres on HBO this Saturday. Unpredictable and real life story about a superintendent of Roslyn School District. Starring Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney. GREAT REVIEWS. Get some popcorn and wine. Another Saturday night at home won't seem so bad!
To all of you out there-I pray for your health, safety, and mental well being. Until I need to rant again-
PEACE OUT-ONE B
ONE B'S CORONA PLAYLIST
I'm Back! What has it been? Two days since my last blog? In the past 4 days, I have done a thorough cleaning of my home (my housekeeper is "working from home and sent instructions on what I should do!"); cleaned out all my closets, and refolded everything; changed the sheets; rearranged my spices and organized my pantry; cooked every meal, and some have been pretty impressive; dyed my own grey roots-not so impressive(!); watched 3 zillion Law and Orders; and gone outside for long walks.
On these walks I need something to listen to, so I have created a playlist for this crazy time in our chaotic and yet boring lives.
Here it is:
1) A CHANGE IS GONNA COME-SAM COOKE. "so tired of standing by myself/And standing up alone/A change has gotta come."

12) HOLD ON-WILSON PHILLIPS. "Things'll go your way/If you hold on for one more day."
13) HOT BLOODED-FOREIGNER. "I'm hot blooded, check it and see/I got a fever of a hundred and three.
14) I MADE IT THROUGH THE RAIN-BARRY MANILOW. "Sometimes you feel so afraid/ Just aim beyond the clouds/ And rise above the crowds/And start your own parade."
15) I'M STILL STANDING-ELTON JOHN. "Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did/ Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid."
16) IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT-R.E.M. "It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine."
17) I'VE BEEN LONELY TOO LONG-THE YOUNG RASCALS. "I keep hopin' with all my mind/Everything gonna turn out right/ I've been lonely too long,"
18) I WILL SURVIVE-GLORIA GAYNOR. "At first I was afraid, I was petrified/And I grew strong/ And I learned how to get along."

"We shall overcome,
We shall overcome, some day
Oh, deep in my heart,
I do believe
We'll walk hand in hand, some day."
For all of you out there hanging out, I hope this unexpected time at home brings you calm, peace, and hope. We still can be productive in many ways. We will get through this.
But, I won't lie. Each day I wake with my stomach churning. As I sit glued to three news channels from 5 to 8 a.m., I can't help but worry about my husband, my children, my grandchildren, my mom, my sister, my nieces and nephews, my relatives, my cherished friends, and truthfully, all of the U.S. population. My anxiety does not wane. What I want is for all of you to be safe and to stay healthy. What I want is for businesses to reopen, and people not to lose money, or their life savings, or their jobs. What I want is for hospitals and health workers to have the ability to help everyone that becomes ill and stay well while helping others. What I want is for no one to die from this virus.
Please stay home if you can. Call your friends, your parents, your kids.
Listen to music. Read! Bake! Exercise! Have sex! Drink! Dance! Laugh! Keep your spirits up.
AND REMEMBER THAT STRESSED SPELLED BACKWARDS SPELLS

Be Prepared To Hunker Down.... INDEFINITELY
For those of you who already are experiencing cabin fever, I suggest you find some good books, binge watch some television, and cook some fabulous food. We are in for the very long haul. There is so much confusion as to what we can expect in future days, what has already happened, and how at risk we are . And, that confusion is directly due to our government not taking this seriously for weeks. Now, we are ALL in a fight against this enemy: Covid 19.
I can only write about what I personally know and what my experience has been.
First, I have a 93 year old mom in an assisted living facility. They have been slow at emailing, setting restrictions, and after weeks of wavering on rules, they have finally forbidden all visitors and will not allow residents to leave. Since I administer my mom's meds, I have to obtain special permission to try and go in once a week. Last night I asked if they would fill her pill boxes (there are 3 boxes; 16 pills; and 6am, 7am, 9:30 am, 4:30 pm, 6pm, and 9:30 pm administer times/ 6 sections in boxes). They responded that they didn't think so, even though they do offer that amenity for a fee. I'm unclear about this response and waiting for further clarification.
If any of you have felt symptoms and tried to get a coronavirus test, you are screwed. There are NO tests despite what you hear from President Trump. I have heard and watched a multitude of testimonies from people who have called their Dr. The Dr. doesn't allow them into their office. The Dr. says go to the ER. The ER says do not come here. The ER says go to your Urgent Care. You call
Urgent Care and they say go to the ER. Presently, it is a nightmare.
Eventually, we will have more tests, but it is way too little and way too late. Google Dan Goldman and watch his horrifying story about trying to get a test in NYC and ultimately, after 6 hours on a gurney in Columbia Presbyterian's hallway, they refused a test. He ended up driving to Connecticut and getting a test where he found out he was positive (as is his wife.)
Regardless of what you are hearing, this virus does not discriminate based on age, income, your general health, your political ideology, or your insurance plan. This is NOT a foreign illness.
Presently 50% of patients with the virus in the ICU are UNDER 60 years old. Many of my friends are 60 or older. They have children and grandchildren who they want to interact with. My children have now forbidden me from seeing them. This is extremely difficult for me. But I am respecting their instructions and FaceTime is my new best friend. My children's valid concern is that their children can be asymptomatic (as can adults-see the Mayor of Miami who tested positive with no symptoms) and pass the virus on to me or my husband.
Thirty and Forty year olds have also been getting very sick with this virus, and the doctors can't figure out why. Check out last Friday's NY Times story about the thirty- something nurse and thirty-something doctor who battled the illness in China. The doctor died (as did the original young "whistleblower doctor"). The nurse did survive but was extremely ill . They were all young and in excellent health. It is baffling and troubling why the young are having trouble fighting this virus.
According to polls, 30% of Republicans don't take this virus seriously. WAKE UP! This is not a political hoax. Look at what is going on all around you. Have you not been watching the news? Listen to Governor Cuomo and Dr. Fauci-they seem to be the voice of reason. Listen to the Governor of Illinois and his horror at the ineptness of the government handling the influx of people arriving at OHare yesterday. Listen to your local government. The Federal Government has been worthless.
In the United States, the Corona Virus cases have more than doubled since Friday. This pandemic will get much worse before it gets better. The hospitals and health workers will be overwhelmed. Our responsibility is to stay home with the hope of slowing the virus; to avoid contact with others as best we can; to keep hands clean; and to keep surfaces disinfected often. These are the places that should be disinfected often:
cell phones
light switches
remote controls
toilet and sink handles
door knobs
refrigerator and cabinet handles and coffee makers
alarm panels
car exterior handles, steering wheels, all interior buttons
computer keyboards and mouse
take out food containers, food packaging, packages and mail that are delivered
If you do venture out, please take your hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes with you in your car.
If you are able to purchase these items, do so:
disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, toilet tissue, Tylenol, frozen fruits, canned goods, medications, detergent, alcohol, thermometers, and paper towels. Have some extra cash on hand.
Please, for now, avoid dinner parties and play dates. Instead, let the kids play outside with their siblings. Take long walks, prepare theme dinners, make a great soup or a delicious dessert. Read a great book. Have a drink with dinner!
Many of you don't know this, but I sell life and long term care insurance. No one pays attention to buying Long term care insurance until you have a parent, a close relative, or a spouse who suddenly becomes ill and needs full time care. In other words, you don't purchase it until the problem hits close to home and smacks you upside of the head. Now, all of a sudden is the realization that you don't want to be a burden on your spouse or children. And Bingo, you buy Long Term Care Insurance.
I think the Coronavirus is a little like Long Term Care Insurance. Many of you won't take this seriously until it reaches a friend, a coworker, or a parent. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT. LISTEN NOW OR FACE AN ITALY-LIKE DEBACLE. WE ARE NOT FAR BEHIND THEM. You have a choice. Stay informed, be safe, practice social distancing so that you or a loved one doesn't get sick.
Finally, If you are looking for something new to watch on television:
Briarpatch- on USA. Monday at 11pm. An investigator returns to her home town to search for her sister's killer and finds a lot of corruption.
The Plot Against America-on HBO. Monday at 9pm. Based on Philip Roth's book where Lindbergh turns the nation towards facism.
Outmatched-on Hulu. A blue collar couple trying to raise their 4 children; 3 of whom are certified geniuses!
Praying for all of you to stay healthy. Take this time to enjoy the people you are at home with. Cherish and Love one another. And above all, try to stay calm. Peace out-ONE B

Diners, Dives, Desserts AND some television
With all the fuss about the coronavirus, I am not sure how many of you are opting to eat out these days. However, we will eventually get cabin fever and need to have a change of scenery. My dining preference is always to patronize a dive with good food, rather than a fancy schmancy restaurant with one too many ingredients on every entrée. These spots are not necessarily dives but very low key delicious establishments. I'm hesitant to share them because it might make it more difficult to eat there once I do.
TOPS-my favorite diner of all time. Way better than the Chit Chat. Located in East Newark, this spot is ALWAYS packed and there is always a wait. But, well worth it. Open till midnight every night, it's the perfect place to go after an event at the Prudential Center. Everything is delicious! 500 Passaic Ave., East Newark.
HONEY'S KITCHEN-this tiny place makes fresh and delicious breakfasts and lunches. Open every day except Sunday. You won't be disappointed. 48 Clinton Rd., Fairfield.
ZI ZIA-from the outside it looks like a pizzeria (which one side is) but once you walk in, there is also a small restaurant on one side. The chef is a real foodie and his entire menu is great as well as his specials. They will accommodate any requests, and Patty is a great waitress! Be prepared to wait at peak dinner hours. Love it here. BYO. 80 Bay Ave., Bloomfield.
SHILELAGH PUB-an unexpected fun spot to grab a drink and light bar food. Inexpensive burgers, bar pizza, fries, wings, etc. Often, there is a cocktail of the week or a beer promotion. Super cheap fare and music on most weekend nights. It's a fun diversion. And it's open super late Monday through Saturday. 648 Prospect Ave., West Orange.
CASA VASCA-Hands down this is my favorite Portuguese restaurant in down neck Newark. I literally could eat here every night. The food here is fabulous. I always eat way too much! The potatoes (chips) that come with the garlic shrimp are amazing! Paella is great and so are all the other entrees. Go hungry-leave very full. There is a deceiving divey bar at front, and the restaurant is through a door beyond the bar. Sometimes they will take a res. Free parking! 141 Elm Street, Newark.
SPIGA-I discovered this place (which is not a dive) because of the New Jersey Housewives! They take a res. The food is delicious and the owners are welcoming. Totally worth the drive to Totowa. BYO. 331 Union Blvd., Totowa.
And if you are into a bit more upscale, try ALLEGORY at the new MC Hotel. The bar area and the food menu is lovely. 690 Bloomfield Ave., Montclair.
Also, FAUBOURG has a wonderful menu and bar. Open for Sunday Brunch and dinner Monday-Sunday. Located at 544 Bloomfield Ave. Montclair. Check it out!
NOW FOR A LITTLE DESSERT.....
NERO'S-try their Candy Sundae or the Carrot Cake ( which is ginormous, and I can eat the whole thing!). 618 S. Livingston Ave. Livingston.
THE RITZ-known for their Apple Pie! It's nice to bring to someone's house for dessert. Delicious warmed with a scoop of ice cream on top. 72 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave. Livingston.
HOLSTEN'S-where the last scene of The Soprano's took place. Reminiscent of Grunnings, but no where as good. Candy and Ice cream are just fair. 1063 Broad Street, Bloomfield.
SPICE BAZAAR-an Indian restaurant seems like an unusual spot for a great dessert. However, the
chocolate ball smash is created tableside. I can't begin to describe it-ice cream enclosed in a hard shell of chocolate with various sauces and fruits-then it's smashed to share. Yummy and fun...39 Elm Street, Westfield.
ZI ZIA-with an advance call, they will prepare a nutella birthday pizza. Chock full of nutella, candy, and fruit, this looks amazing! You need to eat it on the same day though! 80 Bay Ave., Bloomfield.
SHOP RITE-only this store in Nutley makes this famous Donoli. This is a delicious donut filled with cannoli cream. Heaven. 437 Franklin Ave., Nutley.
ESSEX COUNTY COUNTRY CLUB-for those of you who have the opportunity to eat here, remember to stay for dessert. Order the donuts and dipping sauces. You cannot eat just one. You will inhale three of them before you know it! 350 Mt. Pleasant Ave., West Orange.
OK-IF YOU JUST WANT TO HAVE A RELAXING NIGHT AT HOME AND BE A COUCH POTATO, THERE IS PLENTY TO CHOOSE FROM:
HILLARY-Streaming on Hulu now. A mesmerizing docuseries about Hillary and Bill. Extremely insightful with candid interviews.
CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM-HBO. This season is beyond hysterical. Leon is the best character of all time. I cannot get enough of this show. I love Sunday nights now!
SCHITT'S CREEK-POP OR NETFLIX. You can watch the earlier seasons on Netflix, but not the new season. I think this is one of the funniest shows on television. Catherine O'Hara is exceptional, as is the rest of the cast. Quirky and great!
GRACE AND FRANKIE- NETFLIX. Just finished season six. What can be bad about Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin? It's a light, easy to binge, enchanting comedy.
UNBELIEVABLE-NETFLIX. Toni Collette and Merritt Wever are two detectives trying to find the rapist of four victims. Really excellent crime show. Only 8 episodes. I thought this was great!
BETTER CALL SAUL-AMC. Season 6 now streaming. I have watched this series from the beginning. Jimmy McGill is a small time attorney who reverts back to Saul Goodman this season, as an ace (slimy) attorney for criminals. Bob Odenkirk is a joy to watch.
HUNTERS-AMAZON PRIME. Nazi hunters discover hundreds of high ranking Nazis in NYC in 1977. Al Pacino stars. There's been a lot of hype about this show. I find it increasingly difficult to continue watching. Clearly, the subject matter is difficult, but so is the violence of the Hunters towards the Nazis. It is very graphic-beware. You will need to avert your eyes OFTEN.
THE STRANGER-NETFLIX. If you are a fan of Harlan Coben, you will enjoy watching this mystery/thriller series. A wife goes missing and in the husband's search to find her, many secrets are revealed. It's just fair, but you keep watching anyway.
BETTER THINGS-FX. Season 3 just started. Pamela Adlon is an actress and single mom raising 3 girls in LA, and also caring for an elderly mom who lives across the street. One of the best written shows on television. Raw honesty and humor. Really love this!
And Coming Soon:
LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE-HULU. Starring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. An adaptation of the book. Supposedly not great. Debuts March 18.
BREEDERS-FX OR HULU. The comedy series explores "the paradox that every parent knows but never admits: you would willingly die for your children, but often you also want to kill them."
I've given you lots of distractions from Politics and the Corona Virus.

The Oscars 2020 -Fashion, Jewels, Final Thoughts
BEST DRESSED:
Penelope Cruz-For me, she was the most stunning woman on the red carpet. That high low black Chanel Couture dress with the pearl belt was BEYOND! Her hair and makeup were flawless. No one could come close to her perfection.
Margot Robbie-Another beautiful Chanel black dress. This was vintage 1994 and looked sensational. The embellished bodice was exquisite and so was her hair and makeup.
Charleze Theron-Again, I vote for the black dress! This couture Dior ball gown with the thigh high slit looked beautiful and so well tailored to her body. Her necklace from Tiffany was my favorite of the night (we'll get to that later), and the slicked back hair was just right for the look.
HONORABLE MENTION:
Renee Zelwegger-The fit of this white one - shouldered Armani Prive was sublime. I just wish she had added a pop of color to her cheeks and lips. Natural is one thing, but she looked svah.... too pale. And her hair needed help.
Cynthia Erivo-She looked great in the Versace jewel encrusted gown. And, accessorized with lots of Piaget diamonds (maybe a few too many rings and earrings!). Such an amazing singer and actress. Love her.
Regina King-Adorned in a powder pink Versace gown, she looked beautiful. The Harry Winston jewels didn't hurt the look either. And the fit of the gown was spectacular-don't waste a waist!
Rebel Wilson-Exuding old world glamor wearing a gold sequined Jason Wu gown and side parted hair, red lips, and a beautiful Pomellato necklace-Spot on!
FAVORITE JEWELS (MY FAVORITE PART)
CHARLEZE THERON-loved the 5 million dollar marquise necklace from Tiffany. I'm not usually a marquis fan but this did the trick. Gorgeous!
MINDY KALING-another beautiful necklace with marquis stones that was a take off on the one from Ocean's 8. This 124 Carat piece was made by Chopard and was the perfect accessory to her Dolce and Gabana yellow gown.
ZAZIE BEETZ-She wore TWO Bulgari necklaces featuring diamonds and emeralds totaling over 97 carats. These were show stoppers. Who says less is more? This look was INCREDIBLE!
GRETA GERWIG-Did I say this was the best neck piece of the night? It just doesn't get any better than emeralds and diamonds. This Bulgari vintage "looking" piece was a stunner. Every girl needs this in her wardrobe, and it was majestically beautiful with her custom strapless, Dior haute couture gown.
JANELLE MONAE-Who could even notice this Forevermark necklace with that crazy silver hooded Ralph Lauren gown? The necklace was everything.....the gown not so much!
Olivia Coleman-simple but elegant emerald and diamond earrings. Loved them and would wear them with jeans.
SCARLETT JOHANSSON-Donning $2.1 million diamond earrings by Forevermark. These were amazing from every angle. Round and pear shaped diamonds were just exquisite.
DIDN'T LIKE THE LOOK- IT JUST DIDN'T COME TOGETHER:
SANDRA OH-Ellie Saab gown with overpowering sleeves and under wowing hair. Hated the look.
SAOIRSE RONAN-sustainable Gucci? Really? That peplum could have held her laptop! I just didn't get this look. The ugly earrings, the bumblebee brooch in her hair, and the bangs. Avert your eyes-too much.
LAURA DERN-Usually, I think she is one of the best dressed women in Hollywood. But this soft pink Armani Prive with the black crystal beads on the boobs-OY VAY. Terrible! I did not like the hair or the makeup either. Loved her speech though.
SELMA HAYAK-Wasn't a fan of the Gucci gown on her body type. The dress accentuated her bust too much. The Boucheron necklace in her hair was horrendous. And, I never think matching jewelry ensembles are a good idea. The earrings and bracelet that matched that headpiece were definite no nos.
Brie Larsen-Loved her hair and makeup, but I wasn't digging the dress. It seemed too matronly.
Rooney Mara-Her whole look was too gothic for me. She looks like she should be starring in a Twilight movie or living in a coffin. Scary!
FINAL THOUGHTS:
BRAD PITT-Need I say more? This man is GORGEOUS-STILL.
OPENING NUMBER BY JANELLE MONAE-Wow-she rocked the house. I don't know who she is but she was Fab!
STEVE MARTIN AND CHRIS ROCK-They were hysterical. Chris Rock CRUSHED IT! He should've hosted.
KRISTIN WIIG AND MAYA RUDOLPH-They were awesome. Funny, irreverent and exhibited great chemistry. Billie Eilish-shame on you.
JOAQUIN PHOENIX'S ACCEPTANCE SPEECH-Cra-cra! The guy is a lunatic; quickly unraveling like the Joker. I am not necessarily disagreeing with his views. But the inseminated cow topic was really weird for this show. He should have just gone with the quote from his brother, River. "Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow."
Finally, if you have not seen Renee Zellwegger in Judy-YOU MUST. IT IS AN AWARD WINNING PERFORMANCE. BREATHTAKING AND SAD AND EXTRAORDINARY.
If you have not seen The Two Popes-DO! Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins were superb. Loved this film.
Hair Love-this short animation is worth googling. Simply brilliant and adorable. Watch it now.
Parasite-I saw it. It is difficult to watch, but I NEED to watch it one more time. It is a brilliant social satire that needs to be seen. I loved Bong Joon-Ho's speeches at the Oscars and how he payed homage to Scorsese and Tarentino.
Happy Valentine's Day! Peace Out-ONE B
